COVID-19: Residents strictly comply with ‘dusk to dawn’ curfew in Ondo

Residents of Akure, the Ondo state capital, Akungba, Ikare , Arigidi and Ugbe in Akoko axis of Ondo state yesterday evening hurriedly went into their various homes in strict compliance with dusk to dawn curfew imposed by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to curtail the spread of corona virus ravaging the country.

‘Daily Champion’ correspondent observed that as early as 6.30pm shops, restaurants and bars littering Akure had been closed to customers, some of whom were not aware of the curfew.

By 7pm, all the streets had been deserted. Night crooners had confined themselves into the four walls of their respect homes.

Also in jubilee, Ilepa area of Ikare and Olokun in Agbaluku Arigidi, night club operators also hurriedly closed to avoid been arrested by law enforcement agents.

Motorists and motorcyclists were not left out as everybody rushed to beat the 7pm deadline for the commencement of the curfew.

A commercial cyclist plying Ikare to Arigidi-Akoko, Mr Ojo Are said that he was not aware of the curfew, but he needed to abide by government’s order.

He, however, lamented that the order would affect him negatively as evening and early mornings are peak period for his operation.

Two elderly persons, James Oladetoun from Ikare-Akoko and Alhaj Balogun kilani from Afin-Akoko described Governor Akeredolu concern for humanity on the Corona Virus pandemic as praise worthy.

The Octogenarians urged citizens to abide by the curfew order to avoid the wrath of law.

They however called on government to expedite on the distribution of palliatives with transparency and fear of God.

The police, military and civil defence officers were up to the task from 7pm till 7am (this morning) to enforce the state government directives on the curfew.

They were seen in all junctions and strategic places like Jubilee junction, Post Office Central Mosque axis, NTA junction all in Ikare Akoko, just like it happened in Akure, the state capital.

When contacted, the Police Area Commander for Ikare-Akoko, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Razak Rauf said the State Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie had met with all Area Commanders and the Divisional Police Officers(DPOs) on how to enforce the curfew and other directives in the area.
