… Urges investment in Education and Healthcare

Former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, on Saturday, August 15, visited Grimard College of Nursing Sciences, Ayingba, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, where he donated ₦10 million for the establishment of a Skills Laboratory Centre.
Obi, in a statement via his X handle ( formerly Twitter) after the visit, said the donation was part of his continued commitment to strengthening healthcare training in the country.
The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) party Presidential candidate recalled that a few years ago, the institution faced the threat of losing its accreditation due to the lack of a bus for students’ clinical placements.
“It gives me great satisfaction to note that, thanks to my intervention and the subsequent provision of a school bus, the school has successfully retained its accreditation and continues to play a vital role in educating nurses and other healthcare professionals,” he said.
Addressing students, staff and management of the college, Obi urged the students to be diligent in their studies, noting that nursing offers wide opportunities both locally and globally.
“A career in nursing offers extensive opportunities and equips individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel and make significant contributions globally,” he said.
He reaffirmed his support for the institution and stressed that national development depends on deliberate investment in critical sectors.
“Every nation striving for sustainable development and an improved quality of life for its citizens must deliberately invest in two crucial sectors: education and healthcare.
These are not areas to be overlooked. Governments have a responsibility to prioritise them, and it is equally important for conscientious individuals and organisations to support these efforts,” Obi stated.
He concluded: “A renewed Nigeria is achievable.”
Grimard College of Nursing Sciences, Ayingba, is one of the key health training institutions in Kogi East.
It trains nurses, midwives and other health workers who serve across hospitals and primary health centres in the state and beyond.
