Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday received a letter from the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, seeking the reordering of the Y2026 Budget christened the “Budget of Shared Prosperity”.
The letter, which was read before the House by the Clerk, Mrs. Adenike Oshinowo, outlined the priorities and rationale behind the proposed budget reordering.
Leading the debate, the Chairman, Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Olumoh Sa’ad noted that the Y2026 budget had recorded about 69 per cent performance, stressing that the proposed reordering had become necessary to ensure that available resources were channeled to priority areas.
He suggested that the development could provide an opportunity for the Governor to reconsider the proposed ₦200bn bond recently presented to the House for consideration.
Contributing, Hon. Aro Moshood described the reordering as part of the dividends of democracy, expressing the hope that it would further address the needs of Lagosians across the nooks and crannies of the State.
Commending the budget performance so far, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu advocated the reallocation of funds to projects that were performing and nearing completion. He stressed the need for projects to be funded adequately based on their scope and level of execution.
While noting that some capital projects had made significant progress, others were still ongoing and required sustained funding for completion.
Calling for greater attention to environmental challenges, especially drainage and flood-control projects, Hon. Kehinde Joseph stressed that adequate funding should be provided for interventions that would help address flooding and improve the quality of life of residents.
Following the contributions, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa thereafter committed the proposed reordering to the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget to report its findings in two weeks.
Subsequently, the House adjourned till Monday, 31st August, 2026.
