The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr Nyesom Wike, has inspected the International Conference Centre, which is set to be commissioned on Tuesday, stating that it would be opened for business soon after its commissioning.
Wike, who assured that the staff working at the centre are adequately trained to manage its technological inputs, revealed that Julius Berger Plc, the company that built the edifice, will be responsible for its maintenance.
He said that the agreement with Julius Berger will ensure proper maintenance and that users of the centre will pay for maintenance services.
“The centre will be maintained by Julius Berger, the company that built it. We’re not going to hand it over to any politician to manage. Maintenance is a significant challenge in this country, and we’re committed to doing things differently.
“The agreement with Julius Berger will ensure that maintenance is done properly. We’re working on the details, and once the agreement is signed, we’ll make sure that anyone who uses the centre pays for maintenance.
“Don’t worry about the new technology; the company that provided it will handle maintenance. The staff working there are Nigerians who have been supervised by us. The technology isn’t complicated, and we’ll start operations soon after commissioning.”
He expressed confidence in the Nigerian staff working at the centre, who have been supervised by his administration.
He stated that the technology used in the centre is not complicated and that operations will start soon after commissioning.
Wike attributed the successful completion of the project to effective leadership and financial management.
He stressed that clear goals, commitment, and prudent management are essential to achieving success.
Responding on navigating financial and bureaucratic challenges, Wike said that leadership is key and that he works closely with civil servants who understand his vision.
“Everything revolves around leadership. When leadership sets clear goals and objectives, and is committed to achieving them, success is assured. Financial management is crucial. No one has unlimited resources, but prudent management is key.
“Bureaucracy can be a challenge, but when you communicate your vision clearly and set expectations, people understand what needs to be done. Leadership is essential. Without it, you can’t achieve anything.
“I work closely with civil servants who understand the vision and are committed to achieving it. If someone is not performing well, I take decisive action. It’s not about dictating, but about communicating and setting clear expectations”, he stated.
The Minister’s inspection tour also included visits to other projects, such as NSIFE and CDC in Gishiri.
He expressed delight at the quality of work done by Julius Berger and other contractors.
He said: “I’m delighted to be here. We’re highly elated. First and foremost, we give thanks to God Almighty for granting us good health and the opportunity to oversee the provision of basic infrastructure”.
Wike thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in completing these projects, describing it as one of the happiest moments of his life.
“We also thank Mr. President for his support in completing this project. I can tell you that it’s one of the happiest moments of my life. At a time when people are complaining about difficulties, we’ve been able to deliver basic infrastructure to the people”, hr said.
The International Conference Centre is set to be commissioned tomorrow, and operations are expected to start soon after. Wike’s administration has emphasized its commitment to delivering basic infrastructure to the people of the FCT, despite challenges.
The centre is expected to meet world-class standards and provide a platform for various events and activities.
