JOSEPH OKWUOFU , Ibadan
An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, the state capital, has granted bail to the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi; the proprietor of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat; and Olori Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The bail was granted by Justice K.B. Olawoyin on Monday.
It would be recalled that the three were being prosecuted over a stampede that occurred at the school.
No fewer than thirty-five children died during the incident, which happened on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
An Oyo State Magistrate Court in Iyaganku had earlier ordered that the trio be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Facility.
The three accused are facing a four-count of conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities following the tragedy that happened during the Christmas funfair in Ibadan on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, where no fewer than 35 children died.
The court had, January 7, fixed Monday for the ruling after Silekunola, Hazmat and Fasasi’s lawyers argued their bail application.
The trio were granted bail after the judge listened to the arguments of their counsel.
The Judge also gave five conditions for the bail to include N10 million and two sureties who must submit landed documents within the jurisdiction of the court.
The other conditions are that the applicant must deposit their international passport with the court and they are barred from granting any form of interview during the pendency of the case.
