A human rights organization, International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, (Intersociety) has claimed that no fewer than 92 Christian travellers who are mostly Igbo were abducted by suspected terrorists between Sunday and Thursday, (August 9 And 13, 2026).
In a press release signed by Intersociety chairman, comrade Emeka Umeagbalasi, he disclosed that out of the 92 abducted, 30 were rescued or escaped and 62 untraced or feared dead.
Giving a detailed explanation on places of the abduction, he stated that, “We at International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (InterSociety) are in possession of field statistics from several sources indicating that no fewer than 92 Eastern Christian travellers, mostly from Igbo Land South-East and South-South, traveling to South-West particularly Lagos State and North-Central particularly Abuja; are found to have been abducted in two days of Sunday, August 9 and Thursday, August 13, 2026.
“The attacks are also found to have taken place in at least seven separate incidents that took place in three States of Ore in Ondo State, South-West Nigeria, Otukpo in Benue State and Okene/Ofu in Kogi State in North-Central Nigeria. All the attacks, according to local residents, eyewitnesses and survivors, were carried out by Jihadist Fulani herdsmen and their allied Jihadist Fulani bandits from their hideouts in nearby forests and bushes.
“60 abducted in one day of Sunday, August 9: The attacks saw at least 60 Igbo Land dominated Christian travellers abducted on Sunday, August 9, 2026 alone, including 20 abducted along Auchi-Okene Federal Expressway in Kogi State; involving Sharon 14-Seater bus conveying passengers from (Igbo) Delta to Abuja and Toyota Sienna car conveying passengers from Abuja to Delta State.
The group noted that the Sharon bus with registration number Kogi ERE 138 AE was conveying about 11 passengers, out of which seven were abducted and four escaped while the Sienna car with registration number BB 362 MKA was carrying nine passengers with six abducted and five escaped.
“Estimated other 40 Igbo Land dominated Eastern Christian travelers are also found to have been abducted by Jihadist Fulani Bandits on the same Sunday of August 9, 2026, involving passengers travelling in three commercial buses (18-Seater Hummer Bus said to belong to Peace Mass Transit with fleet number 2838, 14-Seater Toyota Hiace Bus from the East and Eastern originated Toyota Sienna Car, carrying eight passengers) along Itobe-Achigili-Anyigba Highway located in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
“According to local sources, the first two separate attacks occurred within a two-hour interval on Sunday (August 9) at locations believed to be close to each other, at about 4.pm while the first attack occurred at about 6.pm.
“32 Abducted In Another Day of Thursday, August 13: On Thursday, August 13, 2026, another set of not less than 32 Igbo Land dominated Eastern Christian travelers were abducted by forest occupied Jihadist Fulani Bandits in Ore, Ondo State, involving 18-Seater Eastern originated White Bus traveling to Lagos and another 18-Seater Eastern originated Bus reportedly belonging to Sunny Bright Mass Transit-conveying 14 passengers from Enugu to Abuja; out of which security sources said five were rescued and nine others disappeared into the bush.”
