An ambulance driver on Sunday was feared dead during an accident with an articulated truck at TREM inward Gbagada area of Lagos State.
The ambulance with registration number JBD-405HA got trapped after hitting the truck at its side.
This was contained in a statement by the PS Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.
The statement read, “Following distress calls via it’s Toll Free Emergency numbers at 0147hrs, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated it’s Response Team from Cappa Base, Oshodi.
“Upon arrival of the Eagle response team at the incident scene by 0202hrs, LRT discovered an accident involving an ambulance vehicle, registration number JBD-405HA and an articulated truck, registration number unknown.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the articulated truck was hit on the side while on motion, which led to loss of control by the truck driver and his swerve into another lane.
“The sudden lane change however, reportedly resulted in a road crash when the approaching ambulance rammed under the truck on top speed, resulting in death of the ambulance driver.
“Unfortunately, the ambulance driver got trapped inside the car on impact, and lost his life to the incident.
“Response efforts was coordinated by LASEMA in collaboration with other responders.
“Necessary Safety Measures for protection of responders at the incident scene during the operation was activated.
“LASEMA heavy, and light duty equipment – Super Metro and Lite Tow Trucks were activated to evacuate the impediments in order to avert all probable secondary incidents and ensure public safety.
“Agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Team commenced medical examination of the Ambulance driver at the incident scene immediately it was cordoned-off and secured.”
The corpse which had been bagged had already been handed over to the Ambulance Association members for onward transit to the morgue.
The PS disclosed further that the truck and incident scene were handed over to officials of the Nigerian Police Force.
