Bandits abduct 70 in fresh attack on Zamfara communities

Over 50 motor bikes loaded with armed bandits all dressed in black clothes and carrying sophisticated weapons between yesterday and Saturday  overran Rini village in Zamfara State abducting 70 people in their trail.
According to eye witnesses who pleaded not to be named, the gunmen arrived Rini in Bakura Local Governments Area of the state shooting sporadically in the air and searching from house-to-house for abductees.
At the end of the attack, about 70 people both aged, middle aged and children were abducted from Rini to unknown destinations in the savannah forest said our source.
“They abducted a lot of people, including my relatives and even those I don’t know. I saw them in their tracks before I escaped. All black, you can hardly see their faces because it was hidden.
“Unlike previous attacks, this started in broad day light at about 4: 00 pm Friday afternoon and lasted till about 2:30 am Saturday morning without any sign of a fight back by security agencies of the Federal Government.
Another source, who spoke to newsmen on telephone said that the number of people abducted may even have been more than 70 because strolling around the village, many known young faces were absent apart from those who ran away and could not contact the elders by phone of their whereabouts
“Many others strong enough were said to have escaped to the safe bushes around. We are still verifying the number of our people abducted. But they are more than 75 or 80”, revealed another source who claimed anonimity.
He revealed that apart from the house-to-house operations conducted by the bandits several shops of big time and small traders were also looted in the village by the bandits desperate for booties.
Responding to the incident, when contacted, spokeperson of Zamfara State Police Command, Muhammed Shehu, said they were aware of the incident and have deployed their personnel accordingly.
