Father’s Day: Appreciating our husbands and Fathers

Here we would discuss all topics as it relates to women, from managing bad hair days, ensuring that we serve our families balanced meals in these austere times, to disciplining our children and teenagers. We will also discuss topics like women in politics, women making their own money, keeping side chicks away from husbands, ensuring we raise our daughters right so that they don’t end up as baby mamas or side chicks, the role of women in nation building and topics related to revitalizing our educational system to help keep our children from the streets and from drug addiction.

For Today’s topic, we would like  to discuss “Appreciating our husbands and Father’s on Father’s Day.

It is factual that nearly all over the world,  Father’s are the bedrock of our homes. They are the chief provider and defence minister of most homes. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to providing accommodation, paying school fees, hospital bills and taking care of the extended family members. Of course there are homes where it is the mothers that do the above but we will leave that topic for another day.

Despite all that Father’s are expected to do or do, there is this uneasy feeling that Father’s are unappreciated. I recently  watched a video where a man was lamenting that so many songs are sung in honor of mother’s and their undeniable sacrifices towards their children but few if any song extol father’s. There is even an ibo song that reminds them of their responsibilities instead of appreciating them. Why can’t someone sing a “sweet father ” song like Prince Nico Mbarga sang for mother’s?

A lot of articles have been making rounds in the social media advising father’s to save for their old age as their children may concentrate only on their mothers when the parents have become old and unable to care for themselves any longer.

We as women need to change this narrative. Let us begin to show appreciation to our husbands and Father’s so that our children can emulate us and show equal care to their fathers when they grow old.

Treat your husband this coming Father’s day , and your dad if he is still alive. Our men are invaluable so let’s show them that we honour and appreciate them. Spend that your money, yes you, spend it on him and show the children that he sacrifices as much as you “their mother) if not more , does,  to ensure their well-being and development is assured.

Tell the children how much Daddy loves and sacrifices for you all, not just on this father’s day but all the time.
