Anxiety  over 5 kidnapped victims in Katsina suburb

Five out of the six persons kidnapped by terrorists in the outskirts of Katsina State capital, Katsina, on Tuesday are still in captivity, Daily Champion can report.

The demand of their abductors for ransom after one of those abducted escaped is said to have raised concerns about the others.

Findings revealed that no fewer than 12 gunmen riding on motorcycles invaded Shola Quarters, near the former Federal Medical Centre now Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, about 4.00am on Tuesday thereby fueling suspicions that the terrorists believed to be operating from their enclaves around Bugaje community in neighbouring Jibiya Local Government Area of the state may be shifting the focus to the Katsina suburb.

A source in Shola Quarters told journalists that the terrorists raided several houses in the community but neither killed nor injured any of the residents.

The spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, Isah Gambo, SP, who confirmed the invasion, said the police were not aware of ransom demand, saying “we have not received such information.”

He assured that the Commissioner of Police in Katsina, Idrisu Dabban, had deployed anti-kidnapping unit in addition to other operational assets of the state command to the area with a firm commitment that the remaining victims should be rescued unhurt.

Besides Mannir Jayi who escaped from the abductors, those still in unknown destinations include Tanimu Adamu, Abdullahi Isiya, Isiya Rabiu, Ibrahim Adamu and a yet to be identified woman, the police spokesman disclosed.
