President Buhari rejoices with renowned Historian, Prof. Richard Adeboye Olaniyan on 80th birthday

President Muhammadu Buhari shares in the joy of celebrations as seasoned scholar, Prof. Richard Adeboye Olaniyan turns 80 years, August 7, 2022, joining family, friends and professional associates in thanksgiving for a life dedicated to research, teaching and diplomacy.

President Buhari notes the towering profile of the historian as frontline scholar on European and African diplomatic studies, who displayed his patriotism for Nigeria by returning to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (formerly University of Ife) to take up appointment after obtaining Bachelor of Arts degree (Magna cum Laude), Regis University, in 1965, Master of Arts, Georgetown University, 1967 and Doctor of Philosophy (with Distinctions) in the year 1970 and getting a job as Teaching Assistant in Georgetown University,  United States of America. 

The President extols Prof. Olaniyan’s penchant for excellence, devotion to seeking good of others and contributions to educational development in Nigeria, serving as External Examiner to more than 15 universities and supervising numerous Masters and Doctoral projects.

As recipient of the highly coveted Fellowship of the Nigerian Academic of Fellows turns an octogenarian, the President acknowledges his commitment to nation building through research, teaching and counsel, with pioneer works like study of diplomatic interactions and diplomacy of Yoruba and pre-colonial African states. 

President Buhari prays for longer life, good health and strength for Prof. Olaniyan.
