The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has urged Nigerian workers and the entire country to give his candidacy support to emerge the president of the country in order for him to move Nigeria from consumption to production country.

The Labour Party candidate who spoke at the 10th Memorial Lecture of the former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Pascal Bafyau in Abuja yesterday, expressed worry that the past leaders have made Nigeria a consuming country instead of a country that produces to boost its economy.

He said his commitment is to change the narratives, when elected as president of the country, while urging workers and Nigerians  to pick candidate who is capable of changing the situation of Nigeria for good.

He said it was high time the country moved from the leadership of sharing to leadership of production for a better Nigeria.

Obi who said nothing is wrong with a country borrowing money to run its affairs, however urged Nigeria to make a law that would make any money borrowed to be channelled to production to engage the youths.

He said his government would sit with labour union to discuss their welfare, as he said he did in Anambara state when he was the governor of the state.

On Pascal Bafyau, Obi enjoined the congress to continue celebrating successes of the leaders for others to emulate their steps.

Making his address at the occasion, the president of NLC, Ayuba Wabba likened the achievement of Peter Obi to that of Pascal Bafyau.

* Today, the Labour party which comrade Pascal Bafyau dreamed and founded has become the most talked about and darling political party to Nigeria.

“We also have a presidential candidate whose antecedents and pedigree closely resemble that of comrade Pascal Bafyau. I am talking of no other person than the ” Go and Verify” former Governor of Anambra state, Comrade Peter Obi.

” I am sure that when comrade Peter Obi gets elected, he will remember that the foundation of his emergence was laid by the sacrifice and labour of committed labour leaders like comrade Pascal Bafyau”.

He encouraged the family of the late leader to take it that the patriarch lived a very worthy and fulfilled life ” because he lived his life serving and servicing the lives of others”.

He said Bafyau “succeeded in this wise because he believed in unity of purpose expressed through collective leadership”.

” I can tell you that comrade Pascal, beyond his biological children, has given birth to many children in the labour movement. I can also tell you that he is still giving birth to many as we speak as his life continues to inspire current and future generations. It is in this sense that we say that comrade Pascal Bafyau lives on”, he said.

Earlier, the guest lecturer, senator Jonathan Zwingina, urged workers to relate with politicians and also involve in politics to change the narratives for the good of the country.

He said embarking on strike always to demand for the welfare of workers alone would not solve their problems, if they don’t participate in politics.
