Primate Babatunde Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Oke Afa, Lagos is renowned for most of his accurate predictions on national and international events. In this encounter with Daily Champion, Ayodele reveals what the citizens should expect as the year 2019 unfolds.
What is the Lord saying concerning the New Year?
Let us pray for this country. The economy will remain unstable; the naira won’t be stable as well. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s Governor is already tired, Buhari is weak, and he does not deserve second term in office. Saraki would have made the difference if he were the country’s leader; he would have made the economy better.
I have not seen anything serious about the president administration’s ability to address the problems of the nation. Nigeria is sitting on time bomb and there are harder days ahead for Nigerians. There will be austerity, this country needs divine intervention. There will be more killings this year than in 2018. The country is not safe; all the Service Chiefs are serving nothing because there will be increase in kidnapping, arm robbery, politically motivated killings and high-profile assassinations across the nation.
There will be gas line and pipeline explosions; there will be unexpected deaths of politicians, journalists, actors, pastors and entertainers this year.
I don’t want to rate anybody but I have said it before and I want to say it again and will keep on saying it, Buhari cannot fight corruption instead corruption will fight Buhari, whether he jails anybody or not, corruption is coming back to fight him, that is if he retains that presidential seat. The common man has to place his hope in God and draw close to Him for their individual survival. The government has nothing for the common man in Nigeria that is what I am seeing.
What do you see about the next general elections which are around the corner?
I am still saying it that if Atiku Abubakar wins, there is still going to be problems, if Buhari wins, there is still going to be more problems that is what am seeing. The answer to our problems is not APC or PDP or any political association for that matter, at the moment, Nigerians are in dilemma; there is confusion among the citizens on what to do. So after Buhari’s period what will follow is serious agitations of breakage because many zones will be jostling to produce the country’s president. The world is aware of the threat that is surrounding Nigeria’s unity. The unity of Nigeria is under serious threat.
On the outcome of the coming election, in Ogun State, the presidential election will go to the APC. If APC does the right thing, it can win the governorship poll but there is no way for the PDP in the state’s governorship contest. In Lagos State, Mr. Jide Sanwo-Olu will not do two terms as there will problems between the APC candidate and his deputy, Mr. Hamzat. The crisis will escalate during the election, so the party must be watchful on that. Although there are still lots of issues in Lagos, it will be difficult for any other party to take over Lagos State now. It may be possible in 2023.APC may win Anambra State in the presidential election. Ebonyi and Cross River states may also go to the APC. If the People Democratic Party (PDP) is not careful and if it fails to do what it is supposed to do, it may not make the desired impact in the forthcoming general elections.
In 2015, I said that Dr Goodluck Jonathan may be the last president on the PDP platform and I still stand on that. Jonathan may be the last president of PDP except the party take a quick step and the quick step is that its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Dr Bukola Saraki can do the right thing and that is the only way that PDP can win the presidential election. Any prophet can say anything but let’s leave the judgment till after February. It is not too late to do the right thing.
The Igbo Presidency is not certain in 2023, the Igbo should forget such quest in 2023 but Yoruba Presidency is feasible in 2023. Likewise, Biafra cannot be actualized now; the agitators should wait and watch until 2023. Nigeria will be at peace in 2023. But Nigeria will eventually break up, Cameroon too will break.A state will break away from the U.S.A in the nearest future. Donald Trump‘s second term is under threat, he will not get a second term in office as the U.S President. Inflation and unemployment will be high in Britain this year and this will bring in a new government.
So what are the right things the PDP should do?
If the leaders of the PDP put the right thing together that is when the party can win but if they don’t put the right thing together, APC will still come back. The PDP will win Kwara but in Kogi, the APC governor will still come back that is why the PDP should take a bold step and run as fast as it can if the party wants to win but I doubt their readiness to win since they are yet to fortify the party. Atiku and Saraki are yet to do what they supposed to do in order to win the presidential poll.
Lots of things are going to happen in the North East of the country. The problematic states during the general elections are Lagos, Ogun, Imo, Rivers, Anambra, Kaduna, Sokoto and Zamfara . But Zamfara will go to PDP. It will be a serious battle in Rivers but Governor Nyesom Wike will come back. Kaduna and Kano will go to the APC, there will be vote buying and rigging in the coming election.
But poverty will increase and the nation’s economy will remain in teeters.
In your earlier prediction, you said that if the PDP wants to win, it should give its ticket to Dr Bukola Saraki but now that Atiku Abubakar has picked the party’s ticket what is the right thing that the party should do to win, hand the ticket over to Saraki?
I am not saying that Atiku should hand down the PDP’s ticket to Saraki but let me put it this way, in 2015, in one of my prophecies published in one of the national newspapers; I said that Buhari could not win with his own glory alone. Similarly, Atiku will not win in his own glory except he leans on Saraki’s glory to win.
That is the only way Atiku can win the election. I repeat, unless the PDP does what is needful between Atiku and Saraki, the party cannot win the Presidential Election. Except in a situation where there will be truly mutual understanding, an understanding similar to that of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) prior to the last general elections. Atiku and Saraki should go to that direction; full and total alliance that is when PDP can come back to power, otherwise it is still like child’s play in PDP’s camp. Except Atiku and the PDP do the right thing, they cannot win.
Where do you place the hope of the common man in your predictions?
The common man has to place his hope in God and draw close to Him for their individual survival. The government has nothing for the common man in Nigeria that is what I am seeing.
Beyond prayer what is strategy you think that can sustain the economy?
Why not put the right people to plan the economy ahead and to the level in which the common man can enjoy it. For instance, what the budget says is just the way the high profile people can enjoy themselves. For example, if any state tries to pay the N30 000 wage, its economy will shut down.
The N30 000 minimum wage cannot be paid. No government will pay the N30 000, the highest they can pay is between N22 000 and N25 000, anything more than that is politics, they may promise to pay but they won’t pay. To boost the economy of various states of the federation, oil rigs should be given to individual states to manage instead of individuals. We have the Paris fund, let such fund be given economists to manage, a committee should be set up to manage such fund.Where are the looted funds that were recovered? Where did they keep the fund, let it be used judiciously. It is not enough to say that such money is given to the state governors.
