The new  Borno State Command” Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, has  assured the residents of the state that the police are  deploying science and technology in fighting  insurgency and other crimes in the state.
Speaking to Journalists at a maiden interactive session in his office at the Police headquarters Maiduguri, CP Umar said:  “I assumed office yesterday and I felt you should be the first group of people to meet. I want to solicit your support and cooperation, because there is no way anybody can succeed without media”.
CP Umar also said:  “I  was deployed to the state by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Baba Alkali to serve the state , the Northeast and Nigeria in general. The opportunity to serve was given to me by the IGP  because this is not the first time I am here, I served in Borno Command for nine years in different capacity and different times”.
He added:  “The deployment of technology cannot be effective without the support of the media, as  media play a great role in communication”, saying that ” we are going to utilize science and technology in policing the state  and we are soliciting your support and cooperation in fighting crime”.
“I am appealing to citizens of Borno, more especially the media to join hands with the police in fighting insurgency and other crimes and criminality in the state , especially now  that the Boko Haram insurgents  are surrendering”, CP Umar  stated.
He also solicited for synergy among  sister security agencies in fighting insurgency and other forms of crime and criminality, as modern policing is not only a police job but all security agencies and the community at large.
Responding on behalf of the working journalists in the state, the chairman of the Borno  State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Bulama Talba, assured the CP of the support and cooperation of entire working journalists in the state.
