Warri environmentalist begins campaign, promises quality representation

Renowned environmentalist and candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDP) for the Warri Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, Comrade Sheriff Mulade PhD, has promised to provide quality representation and ensure that the demands of the constituency receive attention at the National Assembly.

The Gbaramatu chief made the pledge on Thursday at the official unveiling, flag-off and stakeholders’ engagement for the Warri Federal Constituency 2027, held at Tobiz Villa Centre in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The candidate said the 2027 election would be determined by the capacity, competence and ability of candidates to effectively represent their constituents, rather than by political party affiliation.

He said the election should be viewed as one in which voters would assess individual candidates and their capacity to deliver, expressing confidence that the NDP would emerge as a national party.

“The 2027 general election is an election for capacity, competence and for those with abilities. It is for those who are pacesetters,” Mulade said.

He urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing the card as the means through which citizens could exercise their political rights and influence the choice of their representatives.

Mulade said his decision to engage traditional rulers, community leaders, youth leaders, women and other stakeholders was aimed at building broad support ahead of the election and ensuring that the interests of the constituency were clearly identified.

He promised to work with the local, state and Federal Governments to attract development to Warri, while ensuring that the voice and demands of the constituency were heard in the National Assembly.

He said, “Come 2027, we will give them quality representation in the National Assembly. We also assured them that come 2027, while we are in the Green Chambers, the voice of Warri will be heard. The quest and demands of Warri will be heard.”

Mulade also highlighted the economic and strategic importance of the constituency, noting that it hosts major oil and gas companies, including Chevron Nigeria Limited and Shell, as well as the Nigerian Navy and the Escravos Terminal.

He further pointed to the presence of Warri Port and Koko Port, arguing that the natural and economic resources located within the constituency warranted greater government attention.

According to him, “We strongly believe with the natural resources in our domain, we need to be given attention and that is the attention I am going to represent on behalf of the good people of Warri.”

The state Chairman of the NDP, Comrade Emeka Pitekwu, said the party settled for Mulade after considering several aspirants because of his perceived capacity and ability to represent the constituency.

Pitekwu said about 15 aspirants were considered before the party settled on Mulade, adding that the party was confident in his ability to win the election and represent it effectively.

He said, “We chose him because we see capacity in him. We as the party, we have the belief that he will win and present us very well in the Warri Federal Constituency.”

The Political Women Leader of the party, Tina Sunday, said women in Warri South had decided to support Mulade because of his character and disposition towards people from different ethnic groups.

She described the candidate as a benevolent person who had demonstrated concern for the people.

According to her, “He is a benevolent man that has a good heart for all the tribes and ethnic groups in Warri, Delta State.”

Also speaking, a representative of the Itsekiri nationality, Frank Ogudje, expressed support for Mulade, saying he believed the candidate would adequately represent the constituency if elected.

Ogudje said Mulade would remain committed to the people who supported his emergence and would not fail the constituents after gaining political office.

He said, “He is not somebody that will fail the people of Warri Federal Constituency.”.
