Two feared dead as BRT bus collides with train at PWD

At least two persons are feared dead, and several others were injured this morning when a Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus collided with a moving train at Public Works Department (PWD) junction.

According to a release by the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASENA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the accident occurred due to recklessness on the part of the BRT driver.

The statement by LASENA noted that on the arrival of the agency response team at the accident scene, it was discovered that a Viale BRT bus with an unknown registration number and a train was involved in an accident.

The emergency team said the investigation gathered revealed that the immediate cause of the incident was reckless driving on the part of the BRT bus driver while trying to beat the train traffic signal before the moving train rammed into the BRT bus.

“Unfortunately, two adults were confirmed dead, and several people were seriously injured,” the statement added.

The agency’s medical team has administered the injured victims’ first aid treatment.
