Tribunal Adjourns hearing on Obi’s petition to May 17

CHIGOZIE IKPO, Abuja

 

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) sitting in Abuja has adjourned the hearing on the petition filed by the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, challenging the victory of the President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

 

The five-member panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani adjourned the pre-hearing process after a unanimous decision by all parties in the petition.

 

The petition by the LP marked: CA/PEPC/03/2023, has the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, Kashim Shetimma, and the APC, listed as 1st to 4th respondents

 

When the matter was called up, Counsel to LP, Livy Nwakweue (SAN) told the court that since there are several outstanding processes yet to be filed and served, the legal teams of all parties have agreed that the hearing be adjourned till Wednesday, May 17, to enable them to file all processes properly.

 

He also told the court that they have agreed that meet, to decide on documents that are not in contention and those that are controversial.

 

Counsel to INEC, A.B. Mahmood (SAN), Counsel to APC, L. O. Fagbemi (SAN) and Wole Olanipekun (SAN) representing Tinubu and Shetimma, all confirmed that there are all in agreement.

 

Justice Tsammani commended the parties for how the step they have taken and adjourned till May 17 for the continuation of the pre-hearing process.

 

Among the dignitaries in court were Mr. Peter Obi, Chairman of the LP Presidential Campaign Council, Prof. Akintola Osuntokun, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo and others.
