The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered a locally fabricated gun, two live cartridges, offensive weapons and illicit drugs in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.
The Command said the arrests and recoveries were recorded shortly after the assumption of duty of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, describing them as part of renewed efforts to combat crime and reassure residents of improved security.
In one operation, operatives of the Ekpan Division arrested a suspected cultist and armed robber, identified as Gift Ojulowo, 30, during a confidence-building patrol along Hausa Market, Ubeji, at about 1.20 a.m. on 10 January 2026.
Police said the suspect was apprehended after fleeing with other hoodlums on sighting patrol officers.
A search allegedly led to the recovery of one locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges concealed in his trousers.
The suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
Similarly, operatives of the Raiders Unit arrested one Obi Onuigbi Ndubuoso, 43, on 8 January 2026, following credible intelligence on the circulation of illicit substances.
A search on the suspect reportedly resulted in the recovery of 36 bottles of nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas”.
Police said investigations are ongoing to trace the source and distribution network of the substance.
In Agbor, two suspected armed robbers, Owakwe Chuks, 37, and Bright Moses, 32, were arrested on 4 January 2026 in connection with motorcycle snatching incidents within the area.
The suspects were said to have been tracked through discreet investigations into a robbery reported on 24 December 2025.
Items recovered from them include a hammer, a short knife, a brown face mask, a handset and a face cap.
The Command also confirmed the arrest of a murder suspect, Aliyu Haman, 20, in Ogwashi-Uku, following the killing of his 20-year-old brother, who was reportedly stabbed while asleep along Poly Road near Adaigbo Filling Station.
Police said the suspect was arrested and the weapon used was recovered, while the victim’s body was deposited at Odua Mortuary for autopsy.
CP Aina Adesola reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains the Command’s top priority, assuring residents that criminals would be pursued decisively through intelligence-led operations and visible policing.
The suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
