The incoming executives of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, have pledged a full partnership with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, to help drive national output to 3 million barrels daily before 2030.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 during a courtesy visit to NUPRC’s head office, the newly elected PENGASSAN President, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, said the union was ready to align with government plans.
“The President of Nigeria has a target being driven through the CCE to ensure that by 2030 we hit 3 million barrels per day. It is up to all of us to deliver it. We will take pride in ensuring that goal is met,” Olabiyi-Agoro stated.
He stressed that the association was coming in with a spirit of cooperation.
“We can assure you that we are here to collaborate. We will be very reasonable,” he said.
While noting that the union remains open to dialogue, the PENGASSAN leader drew a red line around labour rights. He said the right of workers to freely associate and enlist in the union is not up for discussion. He also flagged contract staffing as a major priority his administration will tackle.
Responding, the Commission Chief Executive of NUPRC, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, said the Bola Tinubu administration has been pushing hard to ramp up production. She pointed to a recent executive order focused on attracting investment into deep offshore projects as proof of that commitment.
According to her, crude output has climbed from a trough of 1.1 million barrels per day a few years ago to about 1.755 million barrels per day in 2026.
Eyesan, however, warned that sustained industrial peace is essential to reaching the next production milestones, and called on PENGASSAN to play its part.
“As you settle into your new role, be assured that the commission will give you 150% cooperation. In addition to the support we will give you, we want to ask that we work very closely to actualize government objectives.
“We want to grow production from our current level to 3 million barrels in 2030. For gas, we are still doing under 8bcf and we want to grow that to 12bcf by 2030. So, let’s make that happen,” she said.
