In a historic display of unity and resolve, the Okigwe Council of Traditional Rulers convened a landmark Peace and Unity Summit at the Obowo Local Government Headquarters in Otoko. The summit, held on Saturday, drew together traditional rulers, political leaders, community heads, women and youth representatives, clergy, and academics, all committed to forging a resilient front for lasting peace and accelerated development across the zone.
The communiqué issued at the conclusion of the summit underscores a collective aspiration: to foster enduring unity and sustainable growth in Okigwe, comprising the six local government areas of Okigwe, Onuimo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma, and Obowo. Participants resolved that the strength of Okigwe lies in its unity—a bond that transcends sectional interests, fostering a shared sense of destiny rooted in heritage and mutual respect.
Central to the summit was a renewed pledge to embody the Igbo maxim that everyone is their brother’s keeper. Leaders and community members are committed to deepening empathy, solidarity, and support among all communities within Okigwe. This principle, they asserted, is the cornerstone of peace and sustainable development, ensuring no community is left behind in the zone’s progress.

The summit also emphasized the importance of harmony with neighboring zones—Orlu and Owerri. Recognizing that regional stability is vital for collective prosperity, Okigwe leaders pledged to foster dialogue, cooperation, and robust partnerships that will bolster peace and shared growth across Imo State.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to diligence and integrity, emphasizing that the development of Okigwe depends on the industriousness and law-abiding spirit of its sons and daughters. The zone’s reputation for discipline and community service must be preserved and enhanced through collective effort.
To translate resolutions into action, six committees were established, each tasked with spearheading key areas: *Implementation of Summit Resolutions; Youth and Women Empowerment; Education, Culture & Umu Ada; Economic Development; Political Affairs and Peace; and Climate Change & Agriculture*. These bodies will serve as engines for tangible progress in the zone.
A significant highlight of the summit was the commendation of *His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, CON*. The communiqué lauded the governor’s efforts in upholding and modernizing the developmental vision of *Dee Sam Onunaka Mbakwe*, Imo’s pioneering first governor. Participants lauded Uzodinma’s transformative projects and his dedication to infrastructural growth, health, security, and governance—traits that echo Mbakwe’s legendary legacy.
In a show of unwavering support, Ndi Okigwe unanimously passed a *Vote of Implicit Confidence* in Governor Uzodinma’s leadership. The zone’s people expressed their trust in his policies, which they say have yielded visible progress and inclusive development, especially in security and health sectors. They pledged to stand firmly behind his administration, promising continued loyalty and partnership.
The summit also commended Uzodinma’s hallmark programmes, including security reforms, the Health Insurance Scheme, and the ongoing Voter Registration Exercise. Leaders expressed optimism that these initiatives would further uplift the residents of Okigwe and the entire Imo State.
Concluding on an optimistic note, the summit underscored the collective resolve of Ndi Okigwe to promote brotherhood, justice, and sustainable development. Leaders pledged to work tirelessly toward a united, peaceful, and prosperous Okigwe—a beacon of hope and progress for Imo State and Nigeria at large.
Signed on behalf of the Okigwe Council of Traditional Rulers and Ndi Okigwe, the communiqué marks a new chapter of solidarity and shared vision—fueling the drive for a greater tomorrow.
