The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja Branch, has reaffirmed its leadership in professional capacity building with a landmark Seminar on Technical Report Writing and NSE Corporate Membership Registration Guide, held on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
The one-day hybrid programme recorded a historic turnout of 67 participants—the highest attendance since the seminar series began—underscoring the growing demand among engineers for structured, practical guidance on corporate membership and professional documentation. Participants comprised graduate engineers and prospective corporate members who joined both physically and virtually.
Organised by the Resource Portal & Job Desk (RPJD) Committee in collaboration with the Technical and Professional Development (TPD) Committee and the Young Engineers’ Forum of Nigeria (YEFoN), the seminar combined physical training with ongoing online support, positioning it as one of the most impactful professional development initiatives recently delivered by the Branch.
The programme commenced at 10:28 a.m. and was moderated by the Chairman of the RPJD Committee and Programme Lead, Engr. Peter Ogunbowale, M.Eng., MNSE. Proceedings opened with the third stanza of the Nigerian National Anthem and the NSE Ikeja Branch Anthem, setting a tone of professionalism and purpose.
A detailed safety and housekeeping briefing was delivered by the YEFoN Coordinator, NSE Ikeja Branch, Oluwatoyin Eniojukan, MNSE, with additional guidance on professional conduct, phone etiquette and recording protocols provided by the Moderator—reinforcing safety, discipline and ethics as core engineering values.
In her welcome address, the Chairman of the NSE Ikeja Branch, Engr. Nimot Muili, MSc, FNSE, PMP, described NSE membership as a defining milestone in every engineer’s career. She urged participants to engage actively with the facilitators and take full advantage of the seminar to accelerate their professional growth. Members of the Branch Executive Committee, including respected elder Engr. O.E.S. Ajani, FNSE, FNIEE, were also present.
The technical sessions featured seasoned professionals who delivered practical, demystified insights into technical reporting and membership processes.
Session One, facilitated by Engr. Yusuf Abdulrasak Adekunle, MNSE, PMP, Ex-Officio of the Branch and Immediate Past YEFoN Coordinator, focused on the structure, scope and expectations of technical reports for NSE corporate membership. He stressed the importance of verifiable project experience, supported by photographs, calculations and records, and cautioned applicants to document only projects they can confidently defend.
In Session Two, Engr. Abiodun J. Akinsola, MBA, MNSE, PMP, broke down NSE corporate membership categories, eligibility requirements and application procedures. He clarified common misconceptions and emphasized that technical reports are not required for all membership categories, significantly simplifying what many engineers perceive as a daunting process.
Session Three was delivered virtually by Omosewa Arowolo, GMNSE, who provided a detailed guide on structuring standard technical reports. She highlighted clarity, logical flow, grammatical accuracy, correct capitalisation and professional language, while also addressing the responsible use of artificial intelligence tools as aids—without compromising originality or professional integrity.
The seminar featured highly interactive question-and-answer sessions, engaging both physical and virtual participants. During these discussions, Engr. Ogunbowale offered additional professional insights, including the importance of proper dressing for interviews—recommending suits and ties at all times—and a clear distinction between the roles of NSE and COREN, as well as the streamlined transition process between both institutions once requirements are met.
To ensure sustained impact, participants were introduced to a dedicated WhatsApp follow-up platform designed to provide continued mentorship and guidance throughout the corporate membership application process. Tea and comfort breaks also served as networking opportunities, fostering peer interaction and professional connections.
The programme concluded with group photographs involving the Branch Chairman, the Past National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE), RPJD Committee members, YEFoN executives, guest speakers and participants. The vote of thanks was delivered by the RPJD Co-Chairman, Mr. Tolu Adebisi, who commended the Branch leadership, facilitators and participants for making the seminar a resounding success.
The event officially closed at 3:50 p.m., leaving participants better equipped and more confident to navigate technical report writing and NSE corporate membership requirements.
Widely acclaimed as a major success, the seminar further cemented the NSE Ikeja Branch’s reputation as a hub for mentorship, capacity building and professional excellence. With record-breaking attendance, expert facilitation and structured post-training support, the Branch has once again demonstrated its commitment to empowering engineers with practical tools for career advancement and long-term professional relevance.
