The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has pledged to strengthen its customer service and improve passengers’ travel experience as it joins organisations worldwide to mark the 2026 Customer Service Week from October 5 to 9.
Themed “The Extra Mile,” the celebration marks the first time the NRC is participating in Customer Service Week in its 128-year history.
This was contained in a statement signed by Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Railway Corporation.
According to the Corporation, the initiative aligns with the commitment of its Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, to placing passengers at the centre of its operations and continuously improving the quality of services provided to them.
The NRC said the week would provide an opportunity to appreciate its customers while also recognising employees who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to service delivery.
Opeifa said the Corporation’s recent experiences had further highlighted the need to make customer-centricity a central part of its operations.
“Customers are at the heart of everything we do. Their feedback, trust and partnership challenge us to keep improving and delivering value every day,” he said.
The NRC managing director added that Customer Service Week would serve as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the Corporation and its passengers.
“Customer Service Week is an opportunity to recognise that relationship and remind ourselves that great service must go beyond expectations,” Opeifa said.
The Corporation explained that going “the extra mile” could involve listening more closely to passengers, resolving complaints more quickly, providing clearer information, anticipating customers’ needs, simplifying processes and demonstrating empathy.
It said the commitment would apply across all its operational areas nationwide, regardless of where or how passengers engage with the Corporation.
The NRC also pledged to encourage greater customer feedback and strengthen the link between passenger insights and continuous improvements in service delivery.
The Corporation said it was committed to making exceptional customer service an everyday practice rather than limiting the effort to an annual celebration.
“For the NRC, ‘The Extra Mile’ is more than a Customer Service Week theme; it is a commitment to making every customer interaction count,” the Corporation said.
It added that it would continue working to ensure that passengers enjoy a better experience throughout their journeys on NRC trains.
For a better society
