Ebenezer Adurokiya, Warri
Commissioner of Police, Samuel Etaifo Erale, has officially assumed duty as the 25th CP for Delta State, taking over from CP Yemi John Oyeniyi in a formal handover ceremony at the Command Headquarters in Asaba.
The new Commissioner, who brings over three decades of policing experience to the role, has pledged to build on the successes of his predecessor while intensifying efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety across the state.
Born on 2nd March 1968 at Pedro Police Barracks, Shomolu, Lagos State, CP Erale hails from Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating in 1992.
He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a member of Course 18 Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and has since built an impressive career spanning operations, administration, criminal investigation, and international peacekeeping.
In the year 2000, CP Erale served as part of the Nigeria Police Force contingent on a United Nations Mission in Kosovo, an experience that gave him invaluable exposure to international policing standards and peace-support operations.
A significant highlight of his career is his fourteen-year service in the Police Mobile Force (PMF), during which he served as Squadron Commander for nine years. His extensive tactical experience has earned him a reputation as a tested and trusted operational commander.
His career postings have been wide-ranging, including:
Personal Assistant to the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, Personal Assistant to the AIG, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, Squadron Commander, Mopol 33, Ekiti State (2008-2013 and 2019-2022), CSP Admin, Osun State Command and CSP Promotions Section, Office of the Force Secretary, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Squadron Commander, Mopol 26, Akwa Ibom State (2015-2016), AC Operations, Bayelsa and Ekiti State Commands, DC Admin, Rivers State Command (2022-2026) and DC Community Safety and Crime Prevention, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Most recently, CP Erale was deployed as the CP Elections for the off-cycle elections in Osun State, which was widely praised as one of the most peaceful and successful elections in recent times. He received his posting to Delta State while carrying out this national assignment.
The new Commissioner has attended numerous professional courses, including the Advanced Detective Course (1999), Small Arms and Explosives Course at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Gaborone, Botswana (2005), Tactical Leadership and Command Course at Police Staff College, Jos (2014), Peace Support Course at the National Defence College (2015), and the Strategic and Senior Command Course (2021).
He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the National Institute of Police Studies (MNIPS, 2001).
CP Erale is happily married and blessed with children. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing badminton and brisk walking.
In a press release signed by SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, the force expressed confidence that CP Erale’s extensive experience would bring renewed vigour to crime-fighting efforts in the state.
The Command called on members of the public to cooperate with the new Commissioner as he settles into his new role and works to maintain law and order across Delta State.
