FAVOUR ISHEMBER, Abuja
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating in the media and on social platforms claiming that beneficiaries of the NELFUND student loan scheme have been directed to start repaying their loans.
This was disclosed to Dailly Champion in a press statement issued by Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi
Director, Strategic Communications Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND)
Accordingly, the clarification follows a statement by the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie, disowning a purported circular outlining repayment procedures.
NELFUND emphasized that no repayment guideline has been issued, and the repayment framework remains as stipulated in the NELFUND Establishment Act.
According to the Act, beneficiaries are not required to repay loans while in school or unemployed after graduation.
Repayment commences after gainful employment, as applicable.
The statement reads in part, “The Fund assures stakeholders of its commitment to transparency, fairness, and student welfare, and urges the public to disregard the fake circular and related publications.
Official information will only be communicated through verified NELFUND channels and government platforms.
