The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has charged members of the Diplomatic Corps to support the implementation of the Four D’s of the foreign policy thrust of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The Minister gave the charge to the diplomats who are Ambassadors and High Commissioners serving their respective countries in Nigeria during a meeting with the Corps on Thursday in Abuja.
She said that the engagement is an opportunity for candid conversation, renewed understanding and strong partnership between the Ministry and the Diplomatic Corps
She told the diplomats that the doors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are open to them for consultation in diplomatic and consular matters, adding that they should support the four D’s policy thrust of the President’s administration in Nigeria.
She informed the audience that Tinubu’s administration’s foreign policy thrust is anchored on four D pillars of Demography, Development, Democracy and the Diaspora.
She explained that through demography, Nigeria seeks to harness the potential of its youthful population through education, technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and skills development
On development, it places economic diplomacy at the heart of our nation’s international engagement with emphasis on trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, energy and technology.
On democracy, the Nigerian government reflects on its commitment to constitutional governance, strong institutions, and peaceful resolution of political differences
The Diaspora policy thrust is that Nigeria recognizes its citizens abroad as important partners in investment, knowledge transfer and national development.
The Minister further said that Nigeria is open to trade, investment, tourism, technology, knowledge and meaningful partnership.
She pointed out that at a time of increasing geo-political complexity, conflicts, terrorism, climate change, cyber insecurity, irregular migration and economic uncertainty, no country can confront these challenges alone.
She informed the diplomats the four D pillars place Nigeria and Nigerians at the centre of our country’s foreign policy and added that at the heart of these engagements must be reciprocity, sovereign equality and mutual respect.
For a better society
