The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State, George Ashiru, says the outcome of the United States midterm elections offers a lesson for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ashiru said American voters understand the importance of sending a message to dictatorial leaders with unpopular policies.
According to him, they vote for their welfare, and not by sentiments and personality cults.
He described the midterm elections as a political tsunami against the ruling Republican Party and a total rebuke of the leadership style and economic policies of President Donald Trump.
“Nigeria can learn from this. The only weapon voters have to ensure good governance is to massively turn out to vote, and use their voter cards to ensure their voices are heard,” Ashiru said.
“History beckons in 2027.
We cannot earnestly yearn for change, whilst supporting the very same systems, party, and rulers that ensured our collective impoverishment,” he added.
For a better society
