May & Baker collaborates with FG to supply Biovarcines

May & Baker Nigeria Plc. on Wednesday, announced its joint venture with the Federal Government to supply Biovarcines to Nigerians in 2023.

The company stated that it was amongst its top priorities for the new year alongside maxing its capacity to take care of volume growth.

Speaking at the company’s end-of-year media parley in Lagos, May & Baker, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Patrick Ajah, stated that the company has taken its first major step in vaccine production in Nigeria and will be launching in the second quarter of the new year.

He said, “Let me use this opportunity to announce a milestone achievement in our joint venture with the Federal Government of Nigeria – Biovarcines. On September 14, 2022, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the first part of the MOU of Biovarcines with the FMOH for supply of routine immunization vaccines,

“This is the first/major step towards vaccine production in Nigeria, as this allows Biovarcines to commence the engagement with the chosen technology transfer partners and subsequently initiate the design and construction of the greenfield project.

“We are optimistic that the groundbreaking ceremony for the vaccine production facility will happen before Q2 of 2023 and we will keep you well informed on the progress of events.”

Mr. Ajah also said that they are making significant investments in new machines for the M & B Paracetamol plant and the Pharmacentre to ensure they are able to meet their growing demands, both for new and existing products.

“We have made some investments in capacity expansion in the factory to take care of our volume growth and increasing demand for contract manufacturing from local and international companies.

“We recently installed two new liquid lines to ensure we can meet the demand for both our internal and external preparations”, he added.
