Frontline Presidential hopeful of the New Nigeria People Party, NNPP, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso has been adjudged as the Youth Empowerment Icon of the Year 2021 by the Champion Newspapers.

An apparently elated Kwakwanso, a former governor of Kano state, one time minister of defence as well as senator while accepting his nomination for the award told the leadership of Champion Newspapers led by its Group Managing Director, Dr Mrs. Nwadiuto Iheakanwa during a visit, that “we have a lot of respect for the newspaper and therefore all of you”.

He said, “Normally when we receive any award, we do due diligence to know more about the organization conferring it. But this Champion Award does not requires such background check because it is an organization that everybody knows and we have a lot of respect for the newspaper and therefore all of you (staff).

“I will be very happy to be there, I will check my diary to make sure that the day is secured for the programme. So I appreciate you and thank you for finding me worthy of this. I will also look forward to work together with you, your newspaper to know how you will support us. Everybody knows what is happening in the country and nobody is happy, people have got their own way of describing what is happening”.

According to him, the greatest problem confronting the country at the moment is incapacity on the part of leadership at the federal level to address the numerous socio-economic challenges adding that the situation has nothing to do with religious, ethnic or tribal issues. He promised to provide a courageous and visionary leadership if elected president next year.

“If you travel to northern Nigeria today where President Muhammadu Buhari hails from, it is the worst hit by terrorists. Everywhere as we are sitting here now, villagers are being chased out of their ancestral communities, killed and destroyed. So I am very happy that you are here and I think this is the foundation of better things to come between us” he declared.

Earlier, while presenting the nomination letter to Kwakwanso, Mrs. Iheakanwa had described him as a bridge builder and man of integrity who is  willing not only to unite all sections of the country, ensure that there is peace and security, but ensure  adequate representation of all the six geo-political zones in his cabinet if elected president.

As a leader of proven track record both as governor, minister and senator, she added that the nominee who has promised to also bring about meaningful social, economic and technological transformation of the country truly deserves the honour given his amazing credentials.

Continuing, Iheakanwa stressed, “We therefore extend our hands of fellowship to project your campaigns and the good things you have done because Champion Newspapers stands for a better society and wants the best for this country. We are worried about the current state of affairs in Nigeria and for our children who are growing up.

“Unfortunately what most of us enjoyed growing up such as basic education, social amenities and functional public utilities are no longer there for the people today and according  to the Maslow hierarchy of needs, security is number one and without it, there cannot be any meaningful development”.

Meanwhile, in the nomination letter, the management of Champion Newspapers had recalled the scintillating performance of the founder of Kwakwansiyya Development Foundation, KDF, an initiative designed to assist the people of Kano state and Nigerians at large especially in 2021.

It read in part: “We further note with satisfaction that your foundation has invested heavily in human capital development where hundreds of young Nigerians including those from humble background are offered scholarships to study in the country and abroad thereby complementing government’s efforts in addressing crisis in the education sector”.
