The Women in Energy Network (WEN), in partnership with KPMG, is set to unveil an industry benchmark report on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in Nigeria’s energy sector at its gala night scheduled for November 11 at the Metropolitan Club, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The report is aimed at providing data to assess women’s representation and participation in the sector, helping organisations measure their progress towards inclusive workplace practices.

Speaking on the partnership, Chukwuemeke Igabari, Associate Director at KPMG, said the initiative would help ensure that women’s contributions to the energy sector are recognised and supported.

He noted that although the sector has traditionally been male-dominated, women have continued to make significant contributions across areas including logistics, upstream and downstream operations, power and renewable energy.

Igabari said the benchmark report would help organisations assess whether their policies, processes and governance structures provide women with equal opportunities to participate and advance.

He added that KPMG would work with WEN to gather and validate data for the report, which is expected to provide a baseline for measuring progress in subsequent editions.

Earlier, a WEN representative said the partnership with KPMG followed feedback from previous awards and was intended to make the recognition process more credible and data-driven.

The representative said the report would cover WEN’s three priority areas: women in leadership and careers, young girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and women in business.

The network also said its forthcoming gala would recognise women’s achievements in the energy industry and individuals and organisations promoting diversity and inclusion.

Several organisations, including Shell, NLNG, Seplat, Renaissance and ExxonMobil, were listed among those supporting or collaborating on the event.

The report’s unveiling is expected to provide an initial benchmark against which progress in women’s representation and inclusion in the energy sector can be assessed over time.
