International Women’s Day- Former NAWOJ chairperson urges NAWOJIANS to use phones for skills development and business

SELYA YARNAP, Bauchi

One time chairperson of National Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Bauchi State chapter, Ms Elizabeth Kah has advised NAWOJANS to use their mobile phones for business, skills development and educate themselves in order to add to their sources of livelihood and profession in the country.

She made the call on Wednesday during an interactive forum for women journalists as part of activities to commemorate the 2023 International Women’s Day organized by American Space- Bauchi in collaboration with Bauchi State chapter of the NAWOJ, adding that instead of using our phones to make calls, chats, pictures etc , we can use it to educate ourselves.

According to her, the world is evolving with the economy now moving towards a digital era in a very fast lane, noting that women must brace up with technological trends by ensuring that they are I.C.T compliant in order to succeed in their business life and career.

She challenged NAWOJANS to step up in enlightening community women on the use of apps on their phones to make businesses than sitting down at home to hear stories telling with their phones.

On the issue of pregnant women, she called on them to use the toll free lines to get help when in trouble during pregnancy.

She then called on parents to give equal opportunity for both boys and girls to go to the same school, choose their careers and use their phones to be creative in everything they do and to acquire more knowledge than to making calls always.

In her address, the state chairperson of NAWOJ , Rashida Yusuf stated that the association from the national to state level is doing the needful to address the syndrome of girls out of school , especially in the rural communities.

She also called on the Bauchi state first lady and stakeholders in the state to assist NAWOJ in enlightening girls and women on health education and ICT.

A representative of the State Action Committee on Sexual and Gender Based Violence Mrs Mary Kefas urged women to take time off their busy schedules to relax to be able to take proper care of their homes.
