The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has officially recognized Senator David Mark as the chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The commission recognised Mark alongside other national leaders of ADC, which included former governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as the secretary of the party.
In a change to the party’s particulars on its website on Wednesday in Abuja, the commission listed the new executive members of the party, confirming the resolution of months of leadership tussle within the party.
According to the INEC, the newly recognized National Working Committee, NWC of the ADC is led by Sen. Mark as National Chairman, while former Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, was named the National Secretary.
Others include Dr Mani Ibrahim Ahmad as National Treasurer; Akibu Dalhatu, as National Financial Secretary; and former Edo State governor, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, as the National Legal Adviser.
Reacting to INEC recognition of its national leadership,in a telephone interview, spokesman of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi congratulated ADC members and all lovers of democracy in Nigeria.
“We commend INEC and its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for standing on the right side of history and for standing up for the cause of multi-party democracy.
We are very happy that INEC maintained its words.
“The delay was largely administrative. There is nothing political and so, we are delighted that INEC has finally kept its words.
“We can now move forward with confidence.
According to Abdullahi, “this recognition shows that the polity is becoming relatively good for the interest of competitive democracy.
“That does not mean that the ruling party will stop the act of destabilization that they have been embarking on that led to the coalition in the first place but we will remain vigilant ad we will continue to build our party.
“We can also concentrate on other things. We don’t have to worry on this anymore but consolidate on building our party across the country.”
