Huge financial losses as Biafra Heroes Day allegedly records total compliance in Anambra

It was another huge financial Loss in Anambra following the shutting down of businesses on Friday, May 30, 2025 in the state in alleged respect to Biafra Day.

Markets, shops, hospitals, schools, public and private businesses were allegedly closed down in the state following the event which, according to the IPOB, was in honor of its fallen heroes and those who died on the Biafran side during the civil war.

The pro-Biafra group had declared the day a Sit-at-home and warned citizens to shut markets and businesses in a statement earlier in the week.

At Nnewi, Nnobi, Nnokwa, Ekwulobia, Awka-Etiti , Ukpor, Adazi Oraifite, Awka , Agulu Osumenyi, Ozubulu, Ogidi. Ekwulumili, Isuofia, among other places, markets health centers and other business were shutdown in compliance to the Biafran Day Anniversary, according to sources.

To ensure peace and orderliness the Police and other military outfits in Anambra intensified patrol around the state to avoid breakdown of law and order.

The police had earlier on Thursday held a meeting with other security agencies, among which included the NSCDC, FRSC, Army and Navy, among others, according to Anambra Police command spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, over the event.

“Following the outcome of a closed-door meeting of the Anambra Guber Security Service Commanders ahead of an illegal sit-at-home on 30th May 2025, by some criminal elements, the Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu has noted the increased motivation of the Police and Other Security Agencies stemming from the cooperation and support received from Ndi Anambra in joining voices to condemn any act that threatens our National peace.

“This collective effort has further strengthened the resolve of the security agencies to tackle threats to peace and security in the State, fostering a safer environment through Community-Police collaboration “, Ikenga noted in a statement on Thursday.

There were no reported violence in the aforementioned places in the state as at press time.

However, some traders who did not want their names mentioned described the day a bad one in that it made them and the state government incur financial losses as businesses were shutfown.
