FG moves to improve healthcare infrastructure at UBTH

The Federal Ministry of Education and TETFUND Implementation Monitoring Committee yesterday
visited the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) to assess facilities and explore the establishment of a cutting-edge Medical Simulation Centre.

The visit which centered on evaluating existing infrastructure, examining current medical training programs, and determining UBTH’s capability to accommodate a leading-edge simulation center for medical students.

The delegation, led by Prof. Lawrence Appah, Prof. Emem Bassey, and Dr. Oluwafemi Owagbesin, met with UBTH management, led by Chief Medical Director Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, and representatives from the University of Benin, led by Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Wilson Sadoh.

Prof. Ize-Iyamu underscored UBTH’s unwavering dedication to improving medical education and patient care. She emphasized the potential of a simulation center to provide invaluable practical training for medical students, refining their abilities and readiness for authentic clinical situations.

The CMD conveyed optimism regarding the partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education and TETFUND, highlighting their shared objective of reinforcing healthcare infrastructure and medical training throughout Nigeria.

Prof. Appah commended UBTH’s steadfast pursuit of excellence and innovation in medical education. He acknowledged the hospital’s established infrastructure and the proficiency of its personnel.

The delegation vowed to champion UBTH’s endeavors to secure the required resources and approvals for the project, stressing the importance of investing in medical education to elevate healthcare outcomes nationwide.

Concluding their visit, the delegation toured UBTH’s facilities, including the proposed location for the Medical Simulation Centre.
Evidently pleased with the advancements observed, the delegation reaffirmed their pledge to collaborate with UBTH, aiming to bring to fruition the envisioned premier training facility.

This partnership between the Federal Government and UBTH represents a notable stride toward improving medical education and fortifying healthcare infrastructure in Nigeria, ultimately benefiting patients and communities across the nation.
