The family of Mr. Ekuevugbe Adeda has rejected the Administrative Panel of Inquiry set up by the Delta State Government to probe his death and turned down a proposed condolence visit.
The family’s position was made known on Saturday evening in a statement posted on Facebook by Lloyd Sodje Adeda, brother of the deceased.
He said the family has no confidence in the panel and wants key issues addressed before any engagement with the state government.
Lloyd described his brother’s death as “gruesome murder” and listed three reasons for rejecting the government’s moves.
First, he said the chief prime suspect, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, whom he described as an agent of the government, and other suspects have not been brought to book.
Secondly, he alleged that a commissioner accused by the family of complicity in the death is still enjoying state protection, preventing him from responding to the allegations.
“The State Government should make a public statement on this before any contact with the Family,” he said.
On the panel, the family faulted its composition, saying it is made up solely of civil servants without representation from family members, civil society organisations or human rights activists.
It therefore demanded a more inclusive and credible investigation.
Despite the rejection, a high-powered delegation from the Delta State Government visited the family on Saturday and assured them of its commitment to ensuring justice for the late Adeda.
For a better society
