Expectations as Democracy gets Stronger in Nigeria

As Nigerians celebrate the 23yrs unbroken democracy since 1999, the country Nigeria has witnessed a lot of ups and downs in the system

However, as the country moves on, Nigerians both young and old have various expectations to ensure the best way forward for the country

In these separate interviews, most persons believed that the Nigerian democracy has not fared well as Nigeria’s problems seem in surmountable

According to an Owerri based lawyer, Brr Jude Okewulonu one of  the major problems  which has confronted Nigeria’s democracy is the current issue of insecurity

He recalled that in 1999, the democracy started well but became wobbling when Governments both the present and the past began to introduce unfriendly policies and programs

Bar Okewulonu, had expected that the politicians should have operated the democracy without the influence of religion, ethnicity, and bias pointing out these factors have dented the growing democracy

He said, ” for the Nigeria’s democracy to succeed our political leaders should not be nepotic, biased  with religion, ethnicity and undue favouritism as it is today”

In his own opinion , a renowned politician and business man Chief Godwin Uchenna Mbah believed that the operators of the country’s democracy should do more of the needful to strengthen the Nation’s democracy

He said, ” the Government of the day should give Nigerians concrete hope and assurance that democracy has come to stay by fighting insecurity, particularly killing of innocent young people”

According to him, ” the Government of the day, should do all it can to fix the failed economy, provide good job opportunities for the teaming in employed young people in the country”

Also contributing, the president of a youth pressure Group known as, ” Youths for Good governance” Comrd Joshua Chibuzom Nduka expects that as democracy gets more rooted in Nigeria, the much younger generation should be given more opportunity to make  their own contribution towards the growth of the democracy

He noted  that the bill recently passed by president Mohammadu Buhari allowing the young people opportunity in to politics as a smoke screen pointing out that the old politicians still make it difficult for the young people to win elections

Comrd Nduka urged the operators of the Nigerian Government to remove deceit in running the government if really they want democracy to be truly stable in Nigeria

He insisted that, ” democracy entails, good governance through the provision of workable infrastructures particularly, roads, security architecture, communication, sound education and good economy”
