The Law Officers Association of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, LOAN has embarked on a seven-day warning strike.
The strike which commenced from Friday October 2, 2026, was as a result of government’s failure to address outstanding welfare and remuneration issues.
The law officers disclosed on Friday in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Comrade K.P. Onyia, and Secretary, Comrade M.O. Onyeze, in Enugu.
It said the strike followed prolonged efforts to get the government to address what it described as the plight of Law Officers in the state.
The grouse that led to the industrial action, the association noted is the demand for full harmonisation of Law Officers’ remuneration with that of Magistrates.
It also demanded payment of members’ Bar Practising Fees and annual Bar Conference fees.
Others include the payment and restoration of several allowances and professional fees, the full restoration and payment, including arrears, of Law Officers’ transportation, hazard and wardrobe allowances.
According to the statement, the warning strike, which began from 12 midnight on Friday, October 2, would last for seven judicial days.
“During the strike, no Law Officer in Abuja or Lagos Liaison Offices, Government House or any Ministry, Department or Agency should be on duty, attend court, or visit correctional centres, police stations or other law enforcement agencies in furtherance of official duties.
“The Law Officers should refrain from carrying out government business in line with the association’s collective resolution,” it added.
The association expressed hope that the seven-day warning strike would provide the authorities with an opportunity to address the outstanding demands.
