The University of Abuja recently played host to a dynamic and intellectually stimulating student debate, spearheaded by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Idoko Sunday Idoko, in collaboration with Universal Varsity Television. The event served as a powerful platform to spotlight student talent, promote critical thinking, and cultivate leadership skills among the university’s young minds.
Dr. Idoko’s hands-on leadership and dedication were pivotal to the event’s success. Speaking to reporters, he emphasized the importance of such initiatives in shaping the next generation of leaders.
“I am passionate about ensuring that student affairs remain central to our institutional priorities,” Dr. Idoko stated. “Activities like the SUG elections and debates are more than formalities—they are vital opportunities to build students’ leadership, communication, and civic engagement.”
He added,
“This debate was not just another program—it was a purposeful initiative to amplify student voices and challenge them to think critically and express themselves with confidence. I’m incredibly proud of the passion and intellect our students demonstrated.”
Dr. Idoko reaffirmed his commitment to institutionalizing programs that empower students beyond the classroom.
“We’re not treating this as a one-off event,” he said. “We aim to make platforms like this a regular feature of campus life. Our students deserve consistent opportunities to grow, lead, and be heard.”
Tayo Folorunsho, CEO of Universal Varsity Television and host of the event, applauded the Dean’s instrumental role in making the debate a success.

Dr. Idoko Sunday Idoko (DVM, MSc, PhD, MBA) is a distinguished veterinarian and academic leader. He holds a PhD in Veterinary Clinical Pathology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and currently serves as Head of the Department of Veterinary Pathology as well as Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Abuja.
His research interests include infectious disease transmission dynamics, haematopathology, and immunopathology. Renowned for his passion for student welfare, Dr. Idoko is a mentor and counselor known for his belief in second chances and holistic education. Beyond academia, he enjoys traveling, soccer, reading, and music.
