Don’t allow opposition to take over power, Buhari tells Igbo

SUNDAY ODE, Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Onitsha pleaded with the people of the South East region to give him their votes in the fast approaching February 16 Presidential election and not allow the opposition take over power again.

According to him, ,the bad governance of the country by the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 16 years had dragged the country’s backward.

Buhari spoke at his Presidential campaign rally, in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra state, held at the Holy Trinity Field.

The President said a vote for him and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) from top to bottom, in the forthcoming general elections would guarantee continued provision of sustained infrastructure in all sectors of the economy.

He said the last time quality roads such as the Onitsha/Enugu road was constructed in the South East was during General Sani Abacha era.President Buhari explained that voting his party for a second term would enable government to complete major projects in the transport sector including the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri rail line and the central states.

The President said that his government had been able to tackle the security challenge in the Niger Delta, Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states and therefore deserved a second term.He stressed that before he came to power in 2015, Boko Haram occupied 21 local government in the Northern part of the country emphasized that the military in the last four years has technically decimated the terrorists organization.

President Buhari maintained that a vote for the APC in the February 16 Presidential election is a vote for continuity and sustained social and economic progress. He pledged his government’s commitment to improving on infrastructure development such as roads and rail transportation cited in the South East if reelected.

“We have made some progress, what we want you to do is to come out and vote for APC too to bottom. I assure you that we will continue our programmes and we make every Nigerian happy secure both materially and physically.”

While thanking his supporters for coming out in large numbers to welcome him, Buhari pledged to continue to work to improve the security, economic fortunes of the country as well as scale up the fight against corruption.

President Buhari had earlier commissioned the Nnamdi Azikiwe Mausoleum, started in 1996.He said, for his patriotism and service to leadership, the Zik of Africa as he was fondly called, the late Nigerian leader’s name resonated everywhere in the country.

“Rather than Zik choosing to be a local, he chose to be nationalistic,he embraced all the vast territory of Nigeria.“It is my hope that this building will serve the purpose of promoting nationalism, patriotism and public service,” he added.The President commended those who conceived the project and everyone who worked for its success.
