CLO lauds Anambra Senator over humanitarian services

Civil Liberties Organization, (CLO), Anambra State Branch, on Tuesday lauded Sen. Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central zone, Anambra State, for his humanitarian services and urged him not to relent.

It also extolled the impeccable virtues, uncommon patriotism, and unwavering commitment to the common good of the Senator who the organization said has continued to distinguish himself as a true statesman who always harkens to the cries, problems, predicaments and excruciating sufferings of citizens far beyond his senatorial zone.

In a press statement issued to newsmen in Awka and jointly signed by Evangelist Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, chairman, and Comrade Chidi Mbah, secretary, it read in part thus, “It is cheering news and a highly welcomed development that because of his natural inclination for charity, profound humanitarian disposition, selflessness and Pan-Nigerian spirit, Sen. Umeh intervened decisively in the demolition of houses in Abule Ado area of Festac, Lagos.

“As the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development, and as an astute, diplomatic and humane politician, Senator Umeh engaged the Senate Committee on Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arch. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, the Managing Director / General Manager, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), among others for immediate halting of further demolitions and prevention of more homelessness.

“He also ensured that adequate compensation was paid to those whose houses were affected, restored lives, good health, hope, joy, peace and human dignity to the affected families.

“This singular act has restored confidence of Nigerians in the National Assembly as a place where the cries of the common man can be heard. Many senators would have ignored it because it was outside their zone, but Senator Umeh proved that humanity comes before constituency”.

CLO equally commended Sen. Umeh for awarding scholarships to 326 students in various tertiary institutions worth #64million across the country whose academic careers CLO said would have been truncated due to lack of finance.

“This is a clear indication and eloquent testimony that Sen. Umeh believes in the wise and immortal assertion of Dr. Nelson Mandela that “Education is the greatest weapon to fight poverty, ignorance, and the best safeguard for liberty and protection of human rights.”_

“Education is the best legacy. By investing humongously in scholarships, Sen. Umeh has not just paid school fees; he has secured the future of 326 families and built 326 future leaders.

“Sen. Umeh is indeed the People’s Senator. He is a rare breed. He has engraved his name in gold and in the hearts and minds of citizens through his pro-people bills, motions, interventions and empowerment programmes. He is a man who feels the pulse of the people and acts.

“We call on the political class, corporate organizations, captains of industry and public-spirited individuals to emulate Senator Victor Umeh’s brand of politics – politics of service, compassion, selflessness and uncommon patriotism, so as to make our good better and our better best.

“Nigeria needs more Victor Umehs to heal our land as more 2400 persons have benefited from his scholarship scheme since inception.

May God continue to bless, “guide, protect and strengthen Distinguished Sen. Victor Umeh for greater service to Anambra Central, Anambra State, Ala Igbo and Nigeria at large,” CLO prayed.
