Withdraw soldiers from our streets, communities, Plateau CSOs tasks President Tinubu

….says Nigeria is not at war

DANIEL DAUDA, Jos

A group known as Plateau State Civil Society Organizations Forum (PLACSOF) has called on President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to withdraw the Military from the streets and communities with immediate effect, as the country is not at war.

The CSOs acknowledged that the Military should focus on ending the activities of the bandits who are terrorizing the citizens. “It is needless to have soldiers who claim to be providing security but only show up after every attack had been successfully executed just to help in evacuating dead bodies.”

They stated that the current security structure in Nigeria is faulty, which needs to be reviewed and overhauled.

The forum that lent their voices to condemnthe  recent genocide in five villages in Bokkos local government said, ” enough of bloodshed and bloodletting in Plateau State.”

Speaking to newsmen at NUJ Secretariat in Jos on Saturday, they

said the killings were a setback to all the peace-building effort by the Government and partners in the state.

“There is an urgent need of proactiveness on the part of security agencies both conventional and unconventional alike to curb the killings and destruction in Plateau Communities.

“We strongly attest to the fact that what is displayed by the Fulanis is a strategic act of terrorism, as such Government should note this and label them as terrorists who are not only at war with the armless and harmless civilians but the country as a whole.

“We call on all Plateau Communities to arise and unite in defending their ancestral lands and all means of livelihood for posterity.

“We call on the Plateau State Government to revisit the report of the Task force for the return of IDPs to their ancestral lands and enforce the recommendations of the report.

“The State Government should embark on massive rehabilitation of rural roads to allow for easier access of communities under attacks.

“We are in total disagreement of the call at some quarters to consider imposing a State of Emergency in Plateau State. We consider such calls as malicious and baseless as the entire Country suffers the unfortunate challenge of insecurity”, the forum added.

For a better society
