A group under the platform of the Coalition of Plateau Youth has vehemently rebuked Sheikh Yahaya Jingir’s derogatory labeling of Christians in Nigeria.
Recently, Sheikh Jingir, during a mass wedding in Kano State and a subsequent interview by the BBC Hausa network, made an outburst calling Christians “Infidels” as they are a minority in Nigeria.
The development generated widespread condemnation both within Islam and Christian followers across the country.
But the Coalition of Plateau Youth stated that, as respected, responsible and focused youths, they would not go on social media and insult the personality of Sheikh Jingir, as they have seen it done across the country.
Speaking to newsmen in Jos alongside other leaders of the coalition group, Gujahar Obed Dakyes said, as an elder statesman and Islamic scholar, Jingir should borrow a leaf from other respected Islamic leaders such as Sheikh Masasuka, Sheikh Nura Khalid, among others.
“Currently, our nation is in a difficult situation of insecurity, where people are being attacked and killed on daily basis; hence, we need peace, synergy and unity.
“How can Nigeria be a country of Muslims when we have 20 Governors out of 36 states as Christians? Out of 48 ministers 28 are Christians among other positions.
“It is with total dismay and outright condemnation for an elder like Sheikh Jingir to continue sowing the seeds of discord among Nigerians”, Dakyes stated.
While appreciating Jama’atu Nasir Islam Plateau State chapter and other Islamic sect for their swift response and dissociating from Sheikh Jingir’s comments, Dakyes tasked both Muslims and Christians to unite and disregard the drums of war beaten by Sheikh Jingir.
He called on President Bola Tinubu and security agents to sermon Sheikh Jingir for questioning, as no citizen is above the law.
“We therefore call on the President, security agencies, particularly the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Police, to invite Sheikh Jingir and investigate such derogatory statements against Christians in Nigeria.
“Particularly the genocide against Christians communities and land grabbing in Plateau and other middle Belt states,” Dakyes added.
