Tunde Adeleke, Osogbo
The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it contributed to his victory in the just-concluded governorship election.
It would be recalled that the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed that it collaborated with the Accord Party during the August 15 Osun State governorship election to prevent the All Progressives Congress from reclaiming power in the state.
Daily Champion reports that the ADC’s governorship candidate, Najeem Salaam, polled 17,180 votes in the election; the incumbent governor and Accord candidate, Ademola Adeleke, won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, who secured 444,815 votes.
Reacting in a statement made available by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke declared that his administration had no electoral deal, agreement or partnership with the ADC before, during or after the election.
The governor, who again attributed his re-election to God and the people of Osun State, commended political partners who, according to him, sacrificed and worked towards making the victory a reality.
He stressed that his victory was a collective one involving political partners and supporters who worked towards the realisation of the aspirations of the people of the state.
He said, “I commend political partners who went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. But we must clarify for the sake of history that ADC was never part of the alliance.
“Now that the election is over, I am a governor of all Osun people irrespective of political groups, religion or race.”
