Determined to impact more positively on efforts at improving the nation’s socio-economic and infrastructural development, The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) has given further nudge to its aspiration to enhance youth empowerment in insurance by associating with the Abia State Government and Abia State Leadership Academy in their annual training of 1000 youths.
Through an invitation, extended to the NCRIB by Abia State Government, during a courtesy visit of the Council, led by its President, Mrs Ekeoma Ezeibe to the Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti which was given the required impetus, after the approval of the Governing Board of the NCRIB, with the inclusion of insurance in the curriculum of the Academy.
During the on-going four-week-long annual bootcamp of the Academy where 250 youths are trained each week on various professions to make up the 1,000-youth annual mark, it is expected that not only the subject of insurance would have been imparted to the young minds but that they will also be exposed to the various professions in the insurance industry which they may consider to pursue.
Under the One Insurance Industry thrust of office of the leadership of Mrs. Ezeibe, each constituent body of the insurance industry has been given a slot each week to lecture using the NCRIB-owned and generated PowerPoint presentation on risk, insurance and the abundant professional opportunities in the industry for the future leaders.
It flagged off during its 1st week with the lecture presented by the Nigerian Insurance Association’s (NIA) selected Rosemary Okonkwo. The 2nd week was presented by the Institute of Loss Adjusters’s (ILAN) selected Babatunde Adeyemo. The 3rd week will be presented by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria’s (CIIN) selected Dr. Chizoba Ehiogu.
As part of the climax of the training, the President of the NCRIB, Mrs. Ezeibe would be taking the students during the 4th and final week.
The session of the NCRIB President, will among others, be part of the prelude to the epochal graduation ceremony of the Academy which would be proudly presided over by the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti, OFR.
Expressing his delight at the involvement of insurance in its curriculum, the President of the Academy, Prof. Kenneth Kalu noted that the training had been a game-changer for the students as many of them have already expressed their interest in taking up insurance as a profession. He also noted that with the involvement of insurance, the curriculum had become more wholesome and more adequately prepared the students for a prosperous future, post graduation
Dr Alex Otti, had earlier noted that one could not become a professional without passing through some training, and added that his interest in the training of young people made him to start organising leadership training for them under the Abia Leadership Training Initiative and TechRise program which he said had crystalised into the Abia State Leadership Academy.
“I am very particular about our young people and that is why we set up the Abia State Leadership Academy (ASLA) last year where we are training a thousand people each year” the Governor said.
While commending the initiative, the President of the NCRIB, Mrs Ezeibe stated that the involvement of the Council with Abia State Government and ASLA was a test case and a leeway for partnership with other State Governments and entities who give priority attention to youth empowerment in the country.
She stated that her leadership of the NCRIB had the Empowerment of Future Leaders as one of the drivers of her thrust of office and was ready to give required impetus to the vision by reaching out to willing institutions in any part of the country, with the collaboration of other insurance constituents, under her One Insurance Industry
