The General Manager of Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM, Tayo Akanle, has expressed the station’s readiness for a strategic review and repositioning of its programming to enable it to remain relevant and competitive in an increasingly dynamic media environment.
Akanle stated this at the station’s 2026 Programme Planning Conference with the theme: “From Frequency to Community: Building Content That Connects, Informs and Moves Lagos.”
He said the conference was designed to move Lagos Traffic Radio beyond traditional broadcasting by developing content that would deepen its relationship with the people and respond to their changing needs.
Akanle stressed the need for audience data and feedback to guide programming decisions, urging participants to consider which programmes were performing, the periods when audiences were most engaged, subjects generating interactions and content capable of attracting new listeners.
Akanle assured Lagos residents that the station would not compromise its core mandate of providing seamless and real-time traffic updates even as it explored new programming ideas.
Also speaking, a former Permanent Secretary, Tinu Aina-Badejo, said she was proud of the growth and development of the station fourteen years after its establishment, describing its survival and continued growth as a fulfilment of the vision behind its establishment.
Aina-Badejo encouraged management to continue investing in staff welfare and incentives, noting that recognition and rewards could motivate employees to exceed expectations.
On her part, Former General Manager, Metro FM, Cordelia Okpeh noted that radio stations exist beyond their frequencies and Lagos Traffic Radio must exist beyond its frequency to earn a place in the daily lives of members of the community, while also perfecting the act of receiving feedback for better service delivery.
In his welcome address, Director of Programmes, Victor Oteri, said the station’s programming must reflect the realities of a rapidly changing Lagos, including innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, mobility challenges, security concerns, environmental pressures and the growing digital population.
An Ardent Listener of the Station, Joseph Sanyaolu described his relationship with Lagos Traffic Radio as crucial as it impacts his daily live and those around him, thereby contributing to community transformation among others.
In the highlight of the event, the General Manager recognized and awarded cash gifts to three members of staff for their contributions to the growth of the station.
