Hon. Jim Okolo, the Nigerian Coordinator of Nouvelle Perspective, an international election observer group, has congratulated the Osun State Governor, His Excellency Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the just-concluded governorship election, describing the outcome as a clear manifestation of the will of the people.
Adeleke secured a second term in office after polling 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes in the keenly contested election.
The victory was particularly significant as Adeleke contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, having left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he won his first term in 2022.
In his congratulatory message on Saturday, Okolo commended the people of Osun State for their peaceful conduct throughout the electoral process, while also applauding the security agencies and other stakeholders for contributing to the orderly conduct of the election.
He described the outcome as an affirmation of the democratic choice of the people and urged the governor to see his victory as a mandate to unite the state and deepen good governance.
Okolo further called on Adeleke to be magnanimous in victory by extending an olive branch to his fellow contestants and embracing ideas and contributions capable of advancing the development of Osun State.
According to him, “every idea is needed to take governance to greater heights in Osun,” stressing that the collective efforts of political actors, civil society, professionals and citizens would be crucial to consolidating the gains of the state.
He therefore urged the governor to use his renewed mandate to promote inclusive governance, strengthen unity and pursue policies that would improve the welfare and prosperity of the people of Osun State.
