PDP Rep candidate hails troops as Taraba 18 abductees regain freedom

Favour Ishember, Abuja

People’s Democratic Party House of Representatives hopeful for Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, TPL Mukhtar Usman Galadima, has praised Nigeria’s military, other security formations, and the Federal Government following the liberation of 18 people kidnapped in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Reacting to the development, Galadima called the rescue a clear sign that security agencies remain dedicated to safeguarding lives and bringing calm back to communities hit by crime. He singled out the Sector 3 troops stationed in Ibi for their quick response to distress reports from Kwatan Bajji in the early hours of August 18, which led directly to the recovery of all 18 victims.

According to the PDP candidate, the success should give residents of Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency confidence that the forces are determined to take on criminal gangs and shield communities.

He encouraged the freed victims and their families to stay hopeful, and urged security outfits to keep up and scale up patrols in high-risk areas across the constituency and the wider Taraba State.

Galadima, however, emphasized that better coordination and faster intelligence exchange between the military, police, and other security and intelligence bodies are critical. He noted that operations yield stronger results when agencies collaborate to spot threats early, trace criminal networks, and break them up before they strike.

He also pushed for tougher laws and stronger institutional backing to boost the equipment and intelligence capacity of the Armed Forces and other security services. For him, the goal must shift from only reacting after kidnappings and violent attacks to building systems that can foresee and stop them.

The Wukari/Ibi contender said updated legislation, improved intelligence structures, modern surveillance tools, and consistent support for personnel will make Nigeria’s security framework more responsive to new threats. He added that rural areas need a forward-looking security approach that can detect suspect movements and criminal links before residents are put at risk.

Galadima further called on the people of Wukari/Ibi to act as allies in tackling insecurity. He asked traditional rulers, community leaders, young people, and residents to work closely with security agencies and share prompt, reliable tips whenever they notice strange activities.

He warned against keeping quiet out of fear, saying early alerts can mean the difference between stopping a crime and dealing with its aftermath. He also asked security agencies to safeguard the identity of informants and to build stronger intelligence networks at the community level.

While commending the Federal Government for backing current security efforts, Galadima said continued investment in the welfare, gear, intelligence, and operational readiness of security personnel is key to securing lasting peace.

He expressed confidence that with deeper cooperation between forces and local communities, better laws, and increased government support, kidnapping and other crimes can be drastically cut down in Wukari, Ibi, and other vulnerable parts of Taraba State.

The candidate congratulated the 18 rescued victims and their families, and urged security forces to press on until every criminal group operating in the area is identified and made to face the law.
