Mammoth crowd as the women of Oji River Local Government Area gathered to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, for recognising and appointing their daughters into key positions in his administration.
The women who trooped out in their numbers at the residence of the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugochi Madueke, to mark the end of the 2026 August meeting, said the governor has no opposition in Oji River.
Speaking on behalf of the women, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugochi Madueke said about 58 women are holding various positions in Enugu state and five of them are from the Oji River, who remain unwavering in galvanizing massive support for the governor preparatory for the 2027 general elections.
Madueke further said the event was also to test-run the readiness of the women for the forthcoming general elections as there was an operation show-your-pvc exercise, where it was observed that over 3,000 women were with their PVCs.
In their remarks, the member representing Oji River in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Osita Eze and the Council’s Boss, Hon. Greg Anyaegbudike who described the women’s support for Mbah as deserving, said the governor has redefined governance in Enugu state through his numerous achievements.
They called on the women from other local government areas to emulate Oji River women by demonstrating their readiness to shame other political parties in 2027, and ensure that the good leadership of Governor Mbah continues.
Other state functionaries in attendance, the Chief of Staff Government House, Chief Victor Udeh, Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Ngozi Enih and her Human Capital Development and Poverty Eradication counterpart, Prof. Benedette Okoli, who appreciated the determination and solidarity of the women, encouraged them with financial supports.
Cash gifts, 10kg bags of rice, wrappers and other items were distributed to all the women.
