President of the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI), Olusoji Oluwole has denied all allegations levelled against him concerning the association’s affairs.
A civil society organisation, Pan-African Society for Social and Economic Change (PASSEC) had earlier officially written to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi asking for urgent action over the allegations of forgery, fraud, and financial mismanagement.
PASSEC alleged that Oluwole’s election as president of ASSBIFI was through fraudulent means as his employment with Sterling Bank was reportedly terminated in 2020, rendering him ineligible for leadership under the Trade Union Act among other accusations.
However, Oluwole, reacting through his lawyer, Wumi Okeremi in a letter to Daily Champion insisted that he is still an employee of Sterling Bank.
He further urged the public to disregard the accusations by PASSEC as he wasn’t involved in any fraudulent activity.
PASSEC had alleged that over N300 million has been misappropriated since Mr. Oluwole’s leadership began in November 2022, an allegation that was strongly denied by the lawyer.
PASSEC in the petition, further claimed that some unnamed officials within the Ministry of Labour have ignored formal petitions submitted by aggrieved ASSBIFI members before now
The association called on the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department of State Services (DSS), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to carry out thorough investigation on the issue.
