As Nigeria commemorated its 65th Independence anniversary on October 1st, goodwill messages poured in from different parts of the world. Among those who extended warm felicitations was Archbishop Denny Danson of the Kingdom of Knossos, who not only congratulated the nation on the historic milestone but also used the occasion to call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to redouble efforts in addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
In a heartfelt message, Archbishop Danson acknowledged the burden of leadership, noting that while no leader can satisfy every citizen, the president has a responsibility to improve governance and uplift the living standards of Nigerians.
“Every leader does the best they can, but they cannot please everyone,” the Archbishop said. “The president must improve the situation of Nigerians and also bring good governance. He must confront the former governors who continue to oppress their followers.”
The cleric made reference to the political climate in Rivers State, particularly the influence of former governor Nyesom Wike, describing it as a source of discontent among citizens of the state. He urged the federal government to extend decisive action to other troubled regions.
“I am looking at Rivers State and it is known that the state is under Wike, and this is not sitting well with Rivers people,” Danson declared. “In the same way a state of emergency was once declared in Rivers, other states grappling with security challenges should be treated the same way.”
Expressing dissatisfaction with the state of the nation’s economy, Archbishop Danson lamented the continued looting of public funds by those in office and the depreciation of the naira.
“People in public offices are looting money, and the currency of the country has almost become useless,” he said.
Turning to the health sector, the Archbishop criticized the poor treatment of patients in Nigerian hospitals and urged doctors and medical institutions to uphold their duty to save lives with compassion.
“Hospitals and doctors must have a humane heart. This is done by saving lives. The way hospitals are treating patients today is terrible,” he stated.
Despite his concerns, Archbishop Danson acknowledged President Tinubu’s efforts since assuming office, but insisted that much more needed to be done by both the executive and other arms of government. He called for a united front in the fight against corruption, insecurity, and poor service delivery.
“I want to beg the president that he should do better, though he is trying. All arms of government must perform their duties. They should fight crime,” the cleric emphasized.
The Archbishop concluded his message with prayers for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and prosperity, expressing optimism that the country would overcome its challenges and continue to thrive in unity.
