The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday, fulfilled its threat by petitioning the Inspector General of Police and calling for the prompt arrest, investigation, and prosecution of Abayomi Hunye over alleged impersonation and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace in Ogun State.
In a petition dated August 24, 2026 and signed by Áyoola Peter Olajolo Esq., Director of Administration at the APC National Headquarters, the party said Hunye has been falsely parading himself as the APC Governorship Candidate for the January 2027 election, knowing fully that it was false.
The party described the claim as “false, fraudulent and a deliberate act of impersonation” designed to mislead the public and destabilize the peace of Ogun State.
According to the petition, Hunye was validly suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a written petition from Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.
The APC stated that the suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the National Headquarters for anti-party activities and nefarious dealings injurious to the party’s image.
The party listed the offences to include deliberate acts aimed at causing disaffection among loyal members of the APC.
The petition clarified that the APC has already conducted a valid primary election in Ogun State, and the only recognized candidates are Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan for Governor and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun for Deputy Governor.
The party attached several exhibits to support its claims, including the suspension letter from Tube Ward, the ratification letter from the Ogun State Working Committee, and the letter to the 2026 Screening Committee for Governorship Aspirants.
In its prayers, the APC urged the IGP to invite Mr. Hunye for immediate questioning and to cause his prosecution for impersonation, conduct likely to cause breach of peace, and violation of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The party also asked the police to restrain Hunye from further parading himself as a candidate to prevent a breakdown of law and order in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC pledged full cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force during the investigation and said it is ready to provide further witness statements as may be required.
